Nextel Camouflaged Cell Tower

This camouflaged cellular tower is visible going eastbound on Route 2 in Harvard, MA , before Route 495. The actual tower is located off of Old Shirley Road in Harvard, where it is set back from the road about 200 yards. It is not visible from Old Shirley Road, and is only distinguishable by the black locked gate on a small dirt road on the highway side of the road. The site is fed by underground utilities, and has Verizon Fiber feeding the site.

Nextel did a good job camouflaging the tower, local residents would have no idea the tower is even there.

Above are photos of the tower and antenna. They fit well into the average terrain in the area. You cannot even see the antenna through the camouflage 'tree' material used to cover the top of the tower.

The shelter is also painted a dark green/black to blend it into the surrounding woods. Even the wire and mount to the GPS antenna is painted to blend it into the woods around it.

Currently the only electric utility being used is the single meter on top right by Nextel. The tower and surrounding area could accomidate a number of additional providers.
