AT&T Wireless Camouflaged Tower

New Aerial Photo of Harvard Tree Tower from local.live.com

Located in Harvard, MA on a small side road next to Route 495 is one of two cellular towers that I know of in Eastern Massachusetts that is camouflaged as a tree. The other is also located in Harvard, MA, owned by Nextel. Down a series of small back roads in Bolton into Harvard, this was no easy tower to find. From the small access road at the end of Edgecomb Road, the tower is still almost impossible to see. (Below, look for the incredibly straight tree through the woods in the center of the picture, once you find it, you can barely make out the equipment house at the bottom of the tower. It is painted green, to fit into the woods).

Thank You Elizabeth and others who have pointed out that this tower is in Harvard, not Bolton as I previously had stated on the site! I appreciate any input or suggestions to help keep my site going forward!

Since I took these pictures, Verizon has also added to this tower to help boost the signal in this area of Route 495.

In the early fall of 2003, T Mobile has also been added to the cell site.

This is a picture from the access road (about 100 yards long, parallel to Rte 495, that leads to the site.

Pretty invisible, huh? Check out the pictures on the next pages to see more of this very cool tower, including some picture from Rte 495, which which is about 100 yards west of the site.

Directly below is a photo from Rte 495 about 100 yards to the west of the site. Persons traveling on 495, which runs in a north/south direction through Bolton, would be hard pressed to identify the tower in the midst of the trees.

Going northbound, you can barely see the tower at all. These are shots from the southbound lane of Rte. 495, where drivers can see the tower a little easier. Some probably believe it is a strange looking pine tree, although most probably don't even notice it is there.

Another picture of the site through the woods.

Base Pictures

Here are some pictures of the base of the tower. The tower currently has only AT&T Wireless, although it seems like provisions were made to be able to add a second provider to this tower. I would be surprised if another carrier was added soon however, since the next exit (about 2 miles to the south) has a tower with all the area providers (including AT&T). AT&T just seems to have more towers in their coverage area than any other provider.

You can see the availability on the electrical panel for a second meter.

Below is a picture of the equipment shelter (Rte 495 would be in the background, through the woods)

This is the base where the tower is attached to cement slab that supports the monopole.

Tower (Antenna) Pictures

Below, I have some better pictures of the top of the tower. You can make out the 120 degree sectored antenna thru the camouflage. AT&T transmits at 1900 Mhz (1.9 Ghz), which has no problem passing through the camouflage plastic tree materials.
